Dorian Yates has seen a bad habit that’s becoming increasingly common in the gym – and warns that it will reduce the quality of your workout.

Dorian Yates talks about modern bodybuilding and fitness – sharing his thoughts on the biggest mistake people make in the gym today. In a recent podcast, he spoke in detail about how cell phones are destroying fitness culture and progress during exercise. He also spoke about the rising issue of low testosterone among young men and the importance of longevity in building the body.

Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates has seen the sport evolve over the years, leaving him pleased with the way it is now. Although he is now retired and far from his big body days – Yates keeps an eye on sports, current athletes, and the general culture of exercise and fitness that has developed over the decades.

While any old member of society can find himself unfamiliar with the trends and changes of the new generation – Dorian Yates always tries to keep himself on top of things. Despite this, he finds new ways to build body and exercise to become a bad net regardless of age. Let’s get into his thoughts below.

Dorian Yates Exposes the Top Fitness Mistakes of the Modern Age

Dorian Yates believes that constantly checking your phone, which he calls your ‘hub to the world,’ can hinder your progress in the gym. In his latest appearance on the First Things THRST podcast, Yates explained the issue as he sees it.

“Listen, the worst thing you can do is keep looking at your phone during practice. You are connected to that device 24/7. When you are in the gym, which should only be a few hours a week, you need to focus on your training and isolate yourself from everything else. ”

He emphasizes that leaving your phone behind not only benefits your training but also serves as a form of meditation.

“Leave your phone in your locker or bag. In one hour, nothing on your phone is too fast to wait. Taking time off helps you focus on your hobbies and benefits you and your mental health. It’s a form of meditation, it allows you to forget about everything. «

Steroids and the Culture of Instant Gratification

Elsewhere in the podcast, Dorian Yates argues that steroids have become a ‘cream’ fix for men who want instant results without any hard work.

“Everyone knows about steroids, and they are used a lot as a quick fix. It’s like a makeup routine for men. Women undergo surgery to improve their appearance, and men take steroids to build muscle and lose weight quickly. We live in a world where everything is instant, including information and results.”

Dorian Yates discovers that instant gratification has become a culture in itself. In a way, this ties in with his thoughts on phone use in the gym. We as a society, and perhaps younger generations, expect information and instant gratification.

Maybe that’s why people think they can stay connected to their phones while they’re multitasking and getting a good workout. Maybe that’s why individuals, even without bodybuilding, see steroids as a «magic bullet» that can change their body with minimal work.

This instant gratification is the polar opposite of what bodybuilding and fitness teaches. The bodybuilding lifestyle is all about dedication, hard work, and long-term consistency to produce results.

The Epidemic of Low Testosterone Among Young Men

Dorian Yates also points to the troubling trend of young men with low testosterone levels, which was previously a concern for older men.

«There is an epidemic of young men dealing with low testosterone levels. This used to concern men over 40, but now we see it in guys under 25. This is probably due to exposure to plastics, foreign substances and other substances in leave when they appear.»
